Two Major Events for Christians at LSU Jan. 24

Two Major Events for Christians at LSU Jan. 24

Two major events of interest to Christians will be held on the LSU campus Saturday, Jan. 24, and leaders of the two have decided to combine some of their activities.

The annual Louisiana Life March, which normally goes from the Old State Capitol to the new State Capitol, had to be moved this year because of construction at the new State Capitol.  Instead, it will be held at LSU.  Activities will begin at 8:30 a.m. at the Greek Theatre on Dalrymple Drive. The Rally for Life will begin at 10 a.m., and at 11 a.m., the annual March for Life will begin, concluding at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center at 11:30 a.m.

At that point, the Louisiana Life March will merge with the other event — Response Louisiana, a gathering called together by Gov. Bobby Jindal to provide a day of prayer and fasting for the state and nation.

Response Louisiana will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Assembly Center.

People of all ages, faiths, and ethnic and racial backgrounds will gather in hopes of a breakthrough for our country and a renewed sense of moral purpose.

The state Democratic chair, Sen. Karen Carter, has criticized Response as a “thinly-guised political event.”

However, Gov. Jindal said, “This is an opportunity for people across denominational lines to come together to pray, It’s not a political event, it’s a religious event.”

Response Louisiana is part of a national movement that began in 2011 in Houston, where 40,000 gathered to pray for the country.

The Louisiana Right to Life Federation said,  “By partnering with Response Louisiana,

Right to Life has a great opportunity to further spread the pro-life message and unite with thousands of other Louisianians in prayer. The Life March officially ends following the march, but we hope participants will remain in the Maravich Center for Response

Louisiana event.” and
