Final Push for St. George

Last week, East Baton Rouge Parish Registrar of Voters Elaine Lamb certified 15,165 names on a petition calling for an election to incorporate the proposed City of St. George.  She also announced that 17,859 names would be necessary to meet the requirement of state law that the petition have signatures of 25 percent of the registered voters in the city.
That leaves St. George supporters 2,694 signatures short.  However, state law also provides an additional 60 days to supplement the first petition.
St. George’s Norman Browning  said Wednesday that 1,300 additional signatures have already been gathered and that his group plans to submit a total of 3,200 additional signatures before the 60-day period expires.
Browning said supporters of St. George must gear up their efforts to gather the remaining signatures.  “Please go to the website at www.stgeorgelouisiana.com or call 336-7764 in order to sign a petition or help gathers additional signatures.”
