Conservative Chamber Fundraiser April 24 To Help Launch Radio Station WSGX 95.1

The Chamber of Commerce of East Baton Rouge plans to launch a new radio station in Baton Rouge this June — the Mighty WSGX 95.1 FM.
The station’s format will be that of a Top 40 station from the 1950’s, 1960’s, and 1970’s.  It will feature news on the hour and half hour, classic rock music, and fast-mov-
ing interviews with newsmakers.
Chamber EBR president Woody Jenkins said the station, which will have a conservative editorial policy, will cover all of Baton Rouge and St. George and will reach 250,000 cars a day just on I-10, I-12, and Airline Highway.
The station will be non-profit and non-commercial.  It cannot sell commercials but it can sell sponsorships, in the same manner  as done by public radio and television stations.  The main difference between commercials and sponsorships is that sponsorship messages are more institutional in nature and cannot include a “call to action.”
On Friday, April 24, the Chamber EBR will hold a fundraising event to help cover some of the station’s start-up expenses.
The event is the Mighty WSGX Sock Hop, which will be held from 8 to 11 p.m. at Dearman’s Soda Fountain in the Bocage Shopping Center.  Tickets are $100 a couple.
Sponsorships for the event are $500 for Honorary Newsman, $1,000 for Honorary Program Director, $2,500 for Honorary News Director, and $5,000 for Honorary General Manager.
The Chamber of Commerce of East Baton Rouge was formed in 2012 as a small-business alternative to the more liberal Baton Rouge Area Chamber.  Both groups are affiliated with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.
The Chamber EBR is often in the news with its newsmaker luncheons on the 4th Tuesday of each month at Café Américain, 7521 Jefferson Hwy.
For example, District Attorney Hillar Moore presented the Annual Report of his office to the people of the parish at the March meeting of the Chamber EBR.
Tickets for the WSGX event are available from Woody Jenkins at woodyjenkins@hotmail.com or at 921-1433, Carol Thomas at 248-6880, or Cecil Cavanaugh at 715-6351.
