Moon Griffon: The Rush Limbaugh Of Louisiana with a Cajun Accent

LAFAYETTE – Moon Griffon, 54, is a conservative talk show host who is often referred to as “the Rush Limbaugh of Louisiana with a Cajun accent.”

Griffon, who began his radio career in 1993 has been a thorn in the side of both Republican and Democratic politicians at the state and national levels.

He is a native of Plaque-mine, where his family was active in politics. His grandfather was sheriff of Iberville Parish for 16 years before being defeated by Jessel Ourso in 1964.

Griffon, whose real name is Blaine Michael Griffon, acquired the nickname Moon because as a boy he particularly enjoyed the song, Moon River.

He attended Redemptorist High School in Baton Rouge, where he graduated in 1979.  An outstanding basketball player, he was recruited to play college basketball at the ULM in Monroe.  He graduated in 1983.

Griffon’s wife is Tonia Lou Digirolamo, the daughter of Joseph John Digirolamo of Greenwell Springs and the late Lucille “Mama Lou” Digirolamo, retired secretary for the Greenwell Springs Baptist Church who passed away in 2011.

Griffon has been critical of Gov. Bobby Jindal for spending one-time money and being absent from the state while campaigning for President.
