Superintendent Drake Holds Luncheon

East Baton Rouge Parish schools Supt. Warren Drake reported on the status of the school system this week at the Superintendent’s Luncheon.  Some of the facts and figures were:
• 41,000 students including 2,000 pre-k
•    84 school sites and centers
•    9 percent of students have disabilities
•    4 percent are English language learners
•    85 percent have free or reduced lunches
•    Number of teachers and administrators displaced by flooding: 555
•    Number of bus drivers displaced: 332
•    Many school sites flooded
•    $50 million in remediation to school facilities because of flood
•    System includes nine Blue Ribbon schools and two Green Ribbon schools
•    Nationally recognized magnet high school
•    2nd largest system in state
•    System is improving in five or six indexes
•    Many schools have improved by more than 10 points.
