St. George Cottage Bakery: Kitchen Entrepreneurship
Melanie Hyatt started her sourdough cottage bakery in early February 2022, offering a few farmhouse loaves via Facebook posts directed to friends! The response was encouraging and exciting.
Melanie works full time from home as a hospice triage RN and would love to eventually hang up her nursing license and be a full-time baker!
She bakes sourdough breads, cookies, scones, rolls, cinnamon rolls, brownies, homemade whipped butters, dry bread dips and more.
Her sourdough breads are made with organic, unbleached flour. All her baked goods are free of preservatives and she uses as much organic and locally-sourced products as possible.
Sourdough has many health benefits and a lower glycemic index than regular breads, she said. It also has probiotics, which help with digestion.
