State Police Investigating Threats Against Organizers of St. George

Louisiana State Police say a death threat has been made against specific leaders of the movement to incorporate the proposed City of St. George.  State Police spokesman Jared Sandifer said the threat is credible and his agency is taking it seriously.

Sandifer said that he cannot release many details about the threat because it is an ongoing investigation.

He did tell the Capital City News that the threat was not communicated to any of the  leaders of St. George but to another person who in turn informed State Police.

St. George spokesman Lionel Rainey said State Police read the threatening letter to him but that he would not reveal details because State Police said it could hinder their investigation.  Apparently, the letter mentioned Rainey, St. George chairman Norman Browning, and several others.

Rainey said the leaders of St. George have full confidence in the State Police to investigate the matter.
