Victory for St. George

This month the East Baton Rouge Parish School Board is implementing new school boundaries that could eventually restore neighborhood schools.

The effects of the new boundaries could be felt most dramatically in the southeast part of East Baton Rouge Parish, where the St. George movement has been the strongest.

Woodlawn High, Woodlawn Middle, and the elementary schools in the area will be neighborhood schools serving students from that area.  As recently as May, the Woodlawn Middle school district included parts of the City of Baton Rouge north of Choctaw Drive.

However, that will no longer be the case.  Students from North Baton Rouge who were attending those schools in May can continue but no new students will automatically go to schools in the Southeast in the future.
