Candidates Vie for Endorsement

All three Republican candidates for Governor in the Oct. 24 primary sought the endorsement of the Republican Party of East Baton Rouge Parish, which held its endorsement process during August.

The party, which is governed by the 17-member Republican Parish Executive   Committee,   or   PEC,   asked each candidate to fill out a lengthy questionnaire, which covered many of the major issues which will face the next governor.

After reviewing the questionnaire, the committee interviewed each candidate for an hour, in order to learn in more detail how they plan to govern the state.

Executive committee members met with Sen. David Vitter on Saturday, Aug. 8 at the home of parish GOP chairman Woody Jenkins.  They met with Lt. Gov. Jay Dardenne during a breakfast meeting on Monday, Aug. 10 at Frank’s Restaurant on Airline Highway in Baton Rouge.  And they met with PSC Commissioner Scott Angelle for lunch at Dearman’s on Jefferson Highway on Thursday, Aug. 13.  Later that afternoon, the committee members met to debate and vote on the endorsement at a meeting room at Jefferson Baptist Church.  All meetings of the PEC are open to the public.

The results of the endorsement process are on Page 1.

Jenkins thanked the candidates for their participation in the endorsement process and said, “We have some outstanding Republican candidates for Governor, and we were honored to have them share their views with us.”
