Thursday, October 18 • Central High Hall of Fame

Ronnie Devall will be inducted into the Central High School Hall of Fame at half-time of the game against Denham Springs.  Game time is 7 p.m.  There will be a reception in the cafeteria of the new school complex prior to the game at 5:30 p.m.

Saturday, October 20 • Community History Festival • 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The 4th annual Community History Festival will be held at the Pride-Chaneyville Library, 13600 Pride-Port Hudson Road.  The Louisiana Country Store is the theme of this year’s festival.  By popular demand an “Old-Fashioned Cake Walk” will be held.  Children will enjoy a special appearance by Smokey the Bear from the Louisiana Office of Forestry and “the Little Red Hen” puppet performance.  For information, call 658-1540.

Saturday, October 20 • Emporium Central Opening • 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Emporium Central, 10443 Joor Road, will have a soft opening.  There will be a Tea Party sampler and see what we have to offer!  Come by and join the celebration!

Sunday, October 21 • Homecoming Services • 10:15 a.m.

Sandy Creek Baptist Church, 22834 Liberty Road, will have Homecoming Services.  Music will be led by Bro. Jeff Manchester and guest speaker will be Bro. Jack Varnado.  Dinner on the grounds will follow.  Please come and join in for this time of worship, fellowship, and praise.  Bible study will begin at 9 a.m.

Monday, October 22 • Domestic Violence Awareness Forum • 5:45 p.m.

As a show of support to all domestic violence, Women Working with Women invites everyone to join in a domestic Violence Awareness Forum entitled “Love Shouldn’t Hurt” during National Domestic Violence Awareness Month.  The Forum will be held at BREC’s Independence Park, 7500 Independence Blvd., meeting room 111.  A prayer vigil will begin at 5:45 p.m. and the forum will be 6 to 8 p.m.  Guest speakers are Maj. Reginald R. Brown, Sr., city constable; Judge Charlene Charlet Day, Family Court; and Judge Pamela Taylor Johnson, Juvenile Court.

Wednesday, October 24 • Dana Leong In Concert • 7:30 p.m.

Thursday, October 25 • “Ask the Doctor” • 12 noon

Dr. Joseph Nesheiwat with Zachary Rheumatology will discuss the symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis and how to differentiate between them during the “Ask the Doctor” Lunch and Learn session in the staff development classroom at Lane Regional Medical Center.  Advance reservations are required by call 654-5263.  The session is free and includes a light lunch.

Thursday, October 25 • 2002 State Champs Honored

Redemptorist High School will honor the 2002 State Championship football team at its game against the Dunham School.  A gathering will take place in the St. Gerard cafeteria at 5 p.m. Game time is 7 p.m. All who played for Coach Sid Edwards are invited to attend.

Saturday, October 27 • Benefit Golf Tournament • 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Istrouma High Class of ’77 proudly presents Rock-n-Reunion, a gathering for all 70’s grads at Reflections, 9230 Cortana Place.  Tickets are $75.  Ticket includes unlimited buffet, beer, wine, and frozen drinks. October 29 and 30 • Central Private Biddy Ball Camp • 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.

Wednesday, October 31 • AARP Safety Course • 8:30 a.m.

The AARP Driver Safety Course will be held at Lane Regional Medical Center.  This classroom refresher course for drivers age 50 and older will help you learn the effects of aging on driving and how to adjust and remain safe on today’s roads.  Most auto insurance companies provide a multiyear discount to course graduates.  Class size is limited and registration is required.  For information or to register, call 654-5263.

Thursday, November 1 • Senior Health Day • 8 to 11 a.m.

Join Golden Opportunity and the Pennington YMCA for a fall Senior Health Day at the Pennington YMCA, 15550 Old Hammond Hwy.  The event will feature free health screenings, flu shots provided by Walgreen’s, Chad Braden, M.D. will discuss shingles and the shingles vaccine, and local vendor booths.  For information or to RSVP, call 755-4984.
