Coach Sid’s Election Bolsters Ties With Officials of City of St. George
Since she was in the Louisiana Senate, Sharon Weston Broome fought hard against the incorporation of the City of St. George and the creation of a new community school system in the southeast part of the parish.
When she became Mayor-President, she ramped up her opposition to St. George, even filing suit against the new city after voters had approved incorporation in 2019. After the Louisiana Supreme Court rejected her suit and approved the incorporation last May, she continued to throw roadblocks in the path of the city.
Broome’s opposition ultimately led to her defeat Dec. 7 when the St. George gave Coach Sid his margin of victory as Mayor-President.
With many legal and financial issues still pending between the parish and St. George, leaders of St. George are hoping a friend on the other side of the table will result in a better deal for St. George.
