Norman Browning Statement on St. George City Charter
As the founder of the St. George movement and incorporator of the City of St. George, I am proud to support the proposed Home Rule Charter.
Since our movement began in 2013, we have committed to establishing a transparent, effective government that truly serves the people. This charter delivers on that promise by embedding our core principles into the very framework of our government and giving a voice to the people of St. George.
Our charter is unique in Louisiana — designed specifically to meet the needs of St. George and its residents. It draws from proven best practices across the U.S., tailored for our city rather than a one-size-fits-all model.
Over the last 11 years, I have spoken with countless residents about the best way to govern our community.
One message has been clear: A government with a city manager, mayor, and city council working in unison is the right path forward.
This charter structures government with a proven business model — with our city manager as CEO, managing day-to-day operations. Our city council as the board of directors, setting policies and ensuring accountability; and our mayor as the chairman of the board, providing strategic leadership and representing our city at all times.
Now we have the opportunity to make that vision a reality.
On March 29, join me in securing St. George’s future by voting in favor of the Home Rule Charter.
