Friday, November 9 • Blue Tie Service • 9 a.m.

Everyone is invited to the 3rd Annual Blue Tie Service being held at Central Private School.  Guest speakers are Central Middle student Micah Barnett; Gold Star family of 1st Lt. Christopher Barnett; graduate of Central Private and wounded warrior, Bobby Westbrook, and Claudia Billiot, a veteran and Gold Star Sister of SPC Marisol Heredia.  Blue Star and Gold Star families will be present.

Saturday, November 10 • Shoe Box Packing Party • 9 a.m. to 12 noon

The 3rd Annual Operation Christmas Child She Box packing party will be held at Greenwell Springs Baptist Church.  We invite the community to help pack shoe box gifts that will be sent around the world.  If you would like to donate items visit samaritanspurse.org/occ to view a complete listing of items.  For information, call 261-2246.  Greenwell Springs Baptist will be serving as an Operation Christmas Child Relay Center Nov. 12 through 19.  Go to GSBCLa.com for hours when you can drop off your gift-filled shoeboxes.

Saturday, November 10 • Blood Drive & Jambalaya • 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

There will be a blood drive and jambalaya fundraiser for Megan Achord Stinson, who suffers from Myasthenia, in the Winn Dixie parking lot.  Jambalaya plates are $6 (jambalaya, salad, and bread).  Proceeds will go to help her with medical bills.

Sunday, November 11 • Veterans Mass • 10 a.m.

St. Alphonsus Liguori Catholic Church, 14040 Greenwell Springs Road, will celebrate a Veterans Mass honoring Veterans of all branches of the U.S. military.  The event is open to the public and will include special recognition of attending veterans from each military branch.  Guest speaker will be Brig. Gen. Richard W. Averitt, retired.  St. Alphonsus will be collecting small size toiletries for the Blue Star Mothers of Louisiana to send to U.S. soldiers overseas.  These items can be brought to all the masses on the weekend of Nov. 10 and 11 or dropped off at the church office during business hours.  For information, call 261-4650.

Monday, November 12 • Education & Support Program • 10 a.m. to 12 noon

Lane Regional Medical Center will hold a free education and support program for congestive heart failure patients and their caregivers in the staff development classroom.  The topic will be “Braving the Winter” and the food focus will be “Serving up the Holidays.”  Registration is required.  Free lunch will be provided.  For information or to pre-register, call 654-5263.

Tuesday, November 13 • Victory Harvest Church MOPS • 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.

Victory Harvest Church MOPS will meet on the second Tuesday of each month at Victory Harvest Church, 3953 N. Flannery Road.  Limited childcare is available.  Moms should email Barbara Womack at vhcmops@cox.net or call 275-5255 to check availability.  Mothers who are pregnant with their first child or have a preschooler K-5 or younger are invited to join the group.

Wednesday, November 14 • Central Community Thanksgiving Worship Service • 7 p.m.

A Central Community Thanksgiving Worship Service will be held at Greenwell Springs Baptist Church, 19421 Greenwell Springs.  Message by Donnie Shaffer of Central Church, music by Greenwell Springs Baptist Church choir an orchestra and guest Central area worship teams, and scripture readings and prayers by Central area pastors.  Sponsored by Central Area Pastor’s Association.

Friday, November 16 • Blood Drive • 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

United Blood Services will hold a blood drive at Lane Regional Medical Center.  The drive is open to the public and registration is not required.  However, donors are encouraged to sign up online at www.bloodhero.com – sponsor code: LaneRegional.

November 16 and 17 • Mayor’s Food Bank Challenge

The Mayor’s Food Bank Challenge, Mayor Mac Watts of Central vs. Mayor David Amrhein of Zachary, will be held Friday, Nov. 16, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. ( free dinner with five non-perishable items 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.) and Saturday, Nov. 17, 8 a.m. to 12 noon (free hot dog with five non-perishable items 11 a.m. to 12 noon) at Starkey Academy, 10510 Joor Road.  All food collected in Central goes to the Central Community Food Bank.

November 16 and 17 • Broadmoor High Arts & Craft Fair

The 39th annual Broadmoor High Arts & Crafts Festival will be Friday, Nov. 16, 4 to 9p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 17, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.  There will be over 200 outstanding artists on campus.  Admission is $3 per person (13 & order); age 12 and under, free of charge.  A free shuttle bus service is provided from the Broadmoor Shopping Center and Broadmoor Middle.
