Ted James, Sharon Broome Unite in Support Of Kamala Harris, Opposition to St. George

The two Democratic candidates for Mayor-President of East Baton Rouge Parish have at least two things in common — both are strong supporters of Democratic Presidential candidate Kamala Harris and both are strong opponents of the City of St. George.  Former Rep. Ted James served as State Chairman for Kamala Harris. Mayor-President Sharon Broome is busy raising money for the Democratic nominee and border czar.

Democrats at the national level find themselves paralyzed by their rhetoric and Woke policies. They seem unable to offer candidates who will appeal to the majority of American voters.

Ted: Kamala’s State Chair

Vice President Kamala Harris was the most liberal member of the U.S. Senate and has the same philosophy now.

Former Rep. Ted James was named State Chairman of Kamala Harris for President (June 6, 2019 Advocate). Like the Vice President, James was the most liberal member of the Louisiana House or tied for that spot.

In 2021, James had a conservative rating of -0- in the Louisiana Legislature because of his far-left voting record (June 2021 Central City News).

Sharon: Champion for Kamala

On the other hand, Mayor Broome had a more moderate voting record when she was in the Louisiana House and Senate. However, nationally, she has aligned herself with Vice President Kamala Harris and her radical policies.

She describes herself as a “champion” of Kamala Harris.

In recent Facebook posts, the Mayor-President urged delegates to the Democratic National Convention to oust President Biden as the nominee and chose Kamala.

Afterwards, Broome said, “As a longtime champion of @kamalaharris and her accomplishments, I’m grateful that Louisiana’s Democratic delegation quickly came together to endorse Vice President Kamala Harris to be the Democratic nominee for President.  It is critical that our party unites behind an experienced, qualified candidate like Madam Vice President…”

Earlier this month, Mayor Broome was online asking her supporters to donate to Kamala Harris.

Ted: Effusive Praise

Ted James is no less effusive in his praise for Kamala Harris.

In a recent Facebook post, the former state representative said, “I’ve known Kamala Harris for many years and consider her a personal friend. I was one of her earliest supporters and her service as Vice President has only made me more certain that she will be an excellent President.”

“With her in the Oval Office and me in the Mayor’s Office for the next four years, Baton Rouge’s future has never been brighter,” he said.

Rep. James was State Chairman for Kamala Harris in her failed bid for President in 2019-2020. The campaign was co-chaired by New Orleans City Council President Helena Moreno, another far left Democrat and White House aide to Hillary Clinton.

Sharon: Enemy of St. George

Since her days in the Louisiana Senate, Sharon Weston Broome has been a furious opponent of creating the City of St. George and forming a community school system in St. George.

In the legislature, she tried to set up roadblocks to both the city and the school system.

Once elected Mayor-President, she used her position as Mayor to lead the opposition to St. George, which she called a racist movement.

After the voters of St. George approved the incorporation of the City of St. George in October 2019, Broome filed suit to block incorporation. With her litigation, she succeeded in thwarting the will of the people of St. George and delayed their aspirations to develop their own city.

In 2023, the 1st Circuit Court of Appeal threw out Broome as a plaintiff in the lawsuit, saying she was not a proper party.

On April 26, 2024, the Louisiana Supreme Court upheld the vote of the people and approved the incorporation of the City of St. George.

Even after the Supreme Court decision, Broome has delayed engaging with the legally appointed leaders of the St. George Transition District and raised roadblocks to remitting tax funds to St. George.

In her current campaign for reelection as Mayor-President, Broome appointed M. E. Cormier as her campaign manager.

Cormier was one of Broome’s fellow plaintiffs in the suit which delayed implementation of the City of St. George for nearly five years.

Ted: Enemy of St. George

Former Rep. Ted James has been equally adamant in his opposition to the creation of the City of St. George and the formation of a new community school system for St. George.

He not only voted against St. George but introduced legislation to stop it.  In 2014, he offered a bill to prevent formation of the school system.  He introduced similar legislation again in 2017.

James actively opposed St. George for the past 10 years. In April, he reiterated his strong opposition to St. George.

Ted: Far Left Voting Record

During his years in the Louisiana House of Representatives, Rep. James was known for his far left voting record. This included:

•His strong pro-abortion voting record (May 12, 2021).  Also Act 31 of May 29, 2019.

•His support of men being allowed to compete in girls sports (May 27, 2021).

•His opposition to teaching  American history and civics during high school (May 27, 2024).

•His opposition to teaching about World War II and the Holocaust in high school (May 24, 2021).

•His opposition to state content standards in social studies emphasizing traditional history (June 10, 2021).

•His support of forced vaccination (May 20, 2021).

•His opposition to the legislature being able to end an emergency order of the governor (May 18, 2021).

•His opposition to Constitutional carry legislation (May 27, 2021).

•His support of sending parents to prison if they refuse to send their children to kindergarten (June 3, 2021).

•His support of making it a crime to talk on a cell phone while driving (May 19, 2021).

•His efforts to repeal qualified immunity for police officers (May 11, 2021).

•His support of allowing felons to serve on juries (May 4, 2021).

•His opposition to allowing political parties to have poll watchers (June 8, 2021).

•His support of abortion even after a fetal heartbeat is detected (May 29, 2019).

In 2021, he resigned from the legislature to work for the Biden Administration.
