Thursday, December 6 • City of Central Master Plan Meeting • 6 p.m.

The City of Central Master Plan Meeting will be held at the Central Branch Library, 11260 Joor Road.  This is the second in a series of information meetings to keep citizens updated on the Master Plan Comprehensive Resiliency Program.

Friday, December 7 • Classic Homes and Cocktails • 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.

A benefit event brought to the community by the Foundation for Historical Louisiana, “Classic Homes and Cocktails,” will showcase downtown residences.  The tour will begin on the terrace of the Kress Building on Third Street with drinks and heavy hors d’oeuvres.  Tickets are $30 FHL members, $35 non-members, and $40 on Friday night.  For information, call 387-2464 or go to fhl.org.

December 7 through 9 • Twin Living Christmas Trees

Jefferson Baptist Church, 9135 Jefferson Hwy., will present the 16th Annual Twin Living Christmas Trees 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7, 3 and 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, and 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 9.  All four performances will feature choir, orchestra, and drama.  Tickets are $12.  All seating is general admission.  For information or tickets, call 926-0902.

Saturday, December 8 • Election Day • 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Election for Louisiana Supreme Court, Court of Appeal, Baton Rouge City Judge, two Metro Council seats, and various propositions.  Take the time to exercise your right to vote in these important races and on these important propositions.

Saturday, December 8 • Merry CHRISTmas VBS • 1 to 4:30 p.m.

Grace Presbyterian Church, 9556 Joor Road, is holding Vacation Bible School at Christmas!  Merry CHRISTmas VBS is a one-afternoon event in the activities building.  Children ages 4 through 4th grade are invited to spend the afternoon finding Jesus in Christmas while parents are busy with shopping, baking, wrapping, or just resting.  The afternoon will be filled with Bible lessons, crafts, games, snacks, and music.  Registration is available by visiting www.gracepresbyterianbr.net or going by the church.

Watch the Parkview Baptist Eagles fight for the State 3A Football Championship against Notre Dame High School of Crowley.  Parkview is playing for its fourth State Championship in the past 11 years.

Saturday, December 8 • 62nd Annual Cortana Kiwanis Christmas Parade • 5:30 p.m.

The Cortana Kiwanis Club’s Downtown Christmas Parade will start on River Road at River Center, right on Convention Street, left onto Fourth Street, right onto Laurel Street, left onto Sixth Street, left on North, and concluding at Lafayette and North.  Grand Marshall is Lt. Gov. Jay Dardenne and children’s Grand Marshall is Cinderella.  The Battle of the Bands featuring local high school marching bands will be held at 4 p.m. on River Road in front of the River Center.  New this year will be the Santa Fun Run which starts at 5 p.m. and goes along the parade route.  Registration is open at ChristmasinBR.com.

Saturday, December 8 • Toys for Tots Charity Jam • 7 to 9 p.m.

BREC will host the Toys for Tots Charity Jam and Ollie Challenge at Perkins Road Stake Park.  Participants are invited to come out and show off their biking and skating skills for a good cause.  Everyone can ride and roll and if possible, bring a toy donation for Baton Rouge Toys for Tots.  Enjoy Yolo boarding, skateboard contests, BMX contests, rock climbing contests, family games, free cycling helmet giveaways, and more.  For information, call 272-9200, ext. 570 or visit brec.org.

The death of a child at any age is devastating.  The darkness that sets in when a child has died is all too well known to families who have lost a child.  St. Alphonsus Church will once again provide the opportunity for grieving parents and their families to come together to celebrate the life, love, and light of those children gone much too soon.  Join us for this candlelight service.

Join Deacon Ronnie Hebert, at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, as he takes on the topic of Truth.  Is moral truth black and white or is it just a shade of gray?  As a Christian, how do we find Truth?  How can I know the truth about moral issues? What is truth and why are there so many different views on the subject.  How do we help develop and maintain our fundamental morals?  What is moral relativism? Tuesday, January 8 • Victory Harvest Church MOPS • 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.

Victory Harvest Church MOPS will meet on the second Tuesday of each month at Victory Harvest Church, 3953 N. Flannery Road.  Limited childcare is available.  Moms should email Barbara Womack at vhcmops@cox.net or call 275-5255 to check availability.  Mothers who are pregnant with their first child or have a preschooler K-5 or younger are invited to join the group.

Saturday, April 27 • Central Class of ’83 Reunion • 7:30 to 11 p.m.
