
Interim Police Chief Todd Morris Seeks Election to Full Term in March 29 Vote
Interim Chief of Police Todd Morris, a law enforcement veteran with 34 years of distinguished service, is officially announcing his candidacy for Chief of Police of the City of St. George. Running under the banner of “Building Community & Safety Together,” Chief Morris is committed to fostering collaboration, strengthening partnerships, and enhancing public safety for the residents of St. George.
“Since my appointment by Governor Landry on May 14, 2024, I have been deeply humbled and grateful for the opportunity to serve this community as Interim Chief of Police,” Chief Morris said. “Your support and trust have been invaluable as we build a city where families, businesses, and neighbors can live, work, and thrive together. As your Chief of Police, I will dedicate myself to ensuring that St. George remains a safe, unified, and vibrant community for generations to come.”
Chief Morris has built a career defined by leadership, innovation, and partnership. In his role as a Major and throughout his tenure with the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office, he has managed key divisions including Homicide/Violent Crimes, Special Investigation Division, SWAT, Crime Scene, Evidence, DNA Analysis, and Homeland Security. He has been instrumental in forging collaborative relationships with local, regional, state, and federal agencies, ensuring a coordinated approach to public safety.
“My focus as Chief of Police will be on strengthening partnerships at every level—whether working closely with the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office, regional law enforcement, or federal agencies,” Chief Morris explained. “Together, we can combine resources and expertise under a unified mission to address all aspects of public safety, from crime prevention to emergency response.”
Chief Morris’ record of service includes spearheading initiatives that modernize policing while prioritizing the needs of the community. He led the development of the Homicide/Violent Crimes Unit, served on three multi-agency Serial Killer Task Forces, and helped establish the nation’s first Rapid DNA program during the booking process. These accomplishments demonstrate his ability to deliver innovative solutions while fostering trust and accountability.
“Public safety is a shared responsibility,” Chief Morris said. “I will work tirelessly to listen to the concerns of our residents and engage with community partners. Together, we can create a culture of trust and collaboration that empowers every resident to feel safe and supported.”
Chief Morris’ dedication has been recognized locally and internationally. He has received numerous awards, including the Heart of Law Enforcement Award and was honored by King Philippe of Belgium as a Knight of Chivalry for his role in solving a landmark international case. His extensive training and leadership roles have prepared him to address the unique challenges and opportunities facing the City of St. George.
