Mayor Dustin Yates Announces Candidacy In March 29 St. George Municipal Election

Interim Mayor Dustin Yates has officially announced his intention to run for a full term as Mayor of St. George in the upcoming election in March 2025. Appointed by Governor Jeff Landry in May 2024, Yates has led the city’s transitional government and is now seeking a full term.

“I’m running for mayor because I believe in a brighter future for our city and parish—a future where families thrive, businesses grow, and neighbors work together,” said Yates. “St. George is a community that has already shown what we can accomplish when we come together and I want to build on that momentum.”

Yates brings a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to St. George. He has dedicated his entire professional career to public service, first as a teacher and coach, and later as a firefighter.

For nearly two decades, Yates has served the St. George Fire Department, where he has held roles as Firefighter/Operator, Lieutenant, and most recently, Chief Administrative Officer. Yates’s leadership has been instrumental in shaping the department and ensuring its continued excellence in serving the community.

As an advocate for the incorporation of St. George, Yates was involved in the original petition drive in 2013, helping lay the foundation for the city’s future.

His leadership experience, along with his dedication to the community, makes him uniquely positioned to guide St. George into its next chapter.

Yates and his wife Allison are raising their two children, Avery and Bennett, in St. George and are active members of St. George Catholic Church. The election for Mayor of St. George will take place on March 29, 2025.

Before announcing his candidacy, Yates resigned from the classified service of the fire department and will continue as an unclassified employee.
