History. St. George Catholic School was founded in 1960 by the Sisters of St. Joseph as part of the newly established St. George Catholic Church community. Guided by their mission to educate minds and nurture faith, the Sisters welcomed the school’s first class of 200 students taught my just five dedicated teachers, laying the foundation for a tradition of excellence rooted in Catholic values.

Over the decades, St. George has grown alongside the Baton Rouge community, expanding its campus, programs, and resources while remaining faithful to its founding mission. Today, the school serves 1,100 students in grades PreK4 through 8, with a faculty and staff of more than 100 committed to academic excellence and Gospel values.

Vision. We partner with parents in their sacred role as the primary faith educators of their children. Rooted in a strong Catholic tradition, we are dedicated to nurturing the whole child—spiritually, emotionally, physically, and intellectually—within a Christ-centered community. Our vibrant learning environment, infused with living Gospel values, inspires curiosity, fosters creativity, and encourages the open exchange of ideas and experiences. Together, we form a supportive family of faith where students are empowered to grow in wisdom, character, and love of God.

A Tradition of Excellence. St. George Catholic School continues to build on its rich foundation of academic excellence by employing highly qualified, certified teachers who guide students in 43 homerooms from PreK through eighth grade. Our classroom teachers and certified catechists—integrate Gospel values into every subject area, reinforcing faith formation both during formal religion classes and throughout the school day.

Our dedicated faculty and staff enrich the student experience with specialized instruction in art, music, computer, Spanish, library, guidance, physical education, and a variety of activity-based classes, ensuring a well-rounded education that nurtures every student’s talent and interest.

Through these collective efforts, St. George has earned and maintains accreditation through LUMEN and was proud to be recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence in 2016.
