History. Founded in 1985, St. Jean Vianney Catholic School began as an extension of St. Jean Vianney Catholic Church, which itself was established in 1975 to serve a growing suburban population in east Baton Rouge.
Opening Grades. Initially offered kindergarten through 4th grade when it opened in 1985.
Growth and Expansion. Over the years, the school expanded grade levels and facilities in response to parish growth.
Early 1990s. The school added a computer lab in 1991 and relocated the library in 1995.
Additional Classrooms. From 1992 to 1998, the school saw construction of additional classrooms, cafeteria, and a courtyard to support a growing student body.
In 2008–2009, St. Jean Vianney launched its first soccer team, marking a new chapter in athletics.
In 2015, the school completed construction of a new gymnasium, allowing for on-campus sporting events and assemblies.
In 2018, the school opened a new pre-K wing, art room, and upgraded campus-wide facilities.
In recent years, it has added health services, admissions/enrollment offices, and continued to enhance classroom technology and spiritual spaces.
Mission and Legacy
The school has maintained a strong identity rooted in Catholic faith, academic excellence, and service. It remains a cornerstone of the St. Jean Vianney Parish community, forming students in faith, intellect, and character.
Athletics
Basketball (boys and girls), football (boys), soccer (boys and girls), volleyball (girls), cross country (co-ed), track and field (co-ed), tennis, cheerleading (girls), and intramural basketball teams.
New Construction. Construction of a new press box, concession stand, and outdoor bathrooms was completed in 2024.
Extracurricular Activities and Programs
Extracurricular activities include Junior Beta Club, Student Council, Drama Club, Band, Choir, Art Program, Yearbook Club, Math Club, Quiz Bowl Team, DARE Program, Science and Social Studies Fairs, Spirit Days, Pep Rallies, Service Learning Projects, Field Day, Movie Nights, Religious Celebrations, Monthly Blessings, Mary’s Club, Kickball club, Lego club, Rubix cube club and drama club.
Enrollment Process
1. Application. Visit www.stjeanvianney.org/school and navigate to the Admissions section. Complete the online application form or request a printed copy from the front office. Submit birth certificate, Baptismal certificate (if Catholic), immunization records (Louisiana law gives parents and pupils the right to opt out of immunizations), report cards and standardized test scores (for grades 1–8).
2. Tour and Interview. Schedule a school tour and parent interview with the principal or admissions staff.
Incoming students may be asked to complete a brief screening or readiness assessment.
3. Acceptance Notification. If accepted, you will receive an official acceptance letter or email with next steps.
4. Registration and Fees. Pay the registration fee ($300 for first child, $200 for each additional). Submit any additional documents requested (medical forms, emergency contacts, and so on).
5. Orientation and Start. Attend family orientation (usually in summer for new families). Receive supply lists, uniform details, and class assignments.
