History. The Brighton School was founded in 1972 by a group of concerned parents and educators who recognized the need for specialized education for students with dyslexia and related learning differences. It began as a Saturday morning tutorial program designed to help a small number of students struggling with traditional learning environments.
As word spread about the effectiveness of the program, demand grew. By 1975, Brighton had expanded into a full-time day school, officially chartered as a nonprofit. From its earliest days, the school has been dedicated to serving children who learn differently—particularly those with language-based learning challenges such as dyslexia, dysgraphia, and ADHD.
Over the years, Brighton has evolved into a respected K–12 program offering small class sizes, multisensory instruction (like Orton-Gillingham), and tailored academic strategies. The school continually adapts its approach based on the latest research in neuroscience and education to empower students both academically and emotionally.
Brighton offers smaller class sizes, focused instruction, and a supportive environment to build cooperative and confident students
Regional Leader. Today, Brighton stands out as a regional leader in special education, championing not just academic support, but also confidence-building, advocacy skills, and lifelong learning strategies.
Tuition. $14,200–$15,720 per year, slightly varying by grade
Athletics. Middle/high school teams in basketball, volleyball, and cross-country. Middle school and high school cheer teams.
Extracurricular Activities and Programs. Brighton offers yearbook, choir, digital arts, Beta Club, and more.
Enrollment Process
1. Five-Step Admissions Process. Schedule a Tour (“Walk‑Through Wednesday”). Tours are available every Wednesday at 9 a.m. with the Director of Enrollment, Angelle High. Contact: ahigh@thebrightonschool.org or (225) 291‑2524 ext. 511 to book
2. Submit a Psychoeducational Evaluation. Provide a recent evaluation from a licensed psychologist detailing diagnoses, strengths, and weaknesses. This helps shape your child’s Individual Service Plan.
3. Complete the Online Application plus recommendations. Apply through the school’s website. Submit three letters of recommendation: one from the current principal/executive director and two from teachers.
4. Shadow Visit. Your child spends two full days attending classes at Brighton. During high school, this includes an interview with the administrative team. Teachers assess the student’s fitness academically, socially, and behaviorally.
5. Admissions Committee Review and Decision. After the visit, your application and materials go to the Admissions Committee. Decisions are communicated by email or phone. Enrollment operates on a rolling basis and Brighton accepts students up to 10th grade (11–12 reviewed case by case)
Enrollment Timeline. Tours weekly. Applications accepted anytime, subject to available space. Includes participation in Louisiana’s School Choice Program, which may offer tuition assistance — applications typically run February to April.
