Do-or-Die for St. George

Last year, Norman Browning predicted the battle to incorporate the proposed City of St. George wouldn’t be easy and that the Baton Rouge establishment would throw everything they could at St. George to try to prevent the issue from ever coming to a vote of the people.

Since then, the incorporation movement has faced the shear difficulty of getting 18,000 valid signatures of registered voters on petitions in the face of a propaganda campaign organized by BRAC and the Baton Rouge Area Foundation, the East Baton Rouge school system, liberal groups like Together Baton Rouge, and some in the media.

But Browning says the most serious threat of all has come from the legislature, which has the ability to change the rules of the game.
