GOP Backs Edmonston for BESE

The Republican Party of East Baton Rouge Parish has endorsed long-time educator Kathy Edmonston for the seat on the State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education from the 6th District, which includes much of the Florida Parishes.

One of the issues that was important in endorsing Edmonston was her strong opposition to Common Core and PARCC testing. “The Republican Party is confident

Kathy will provide real leadership and bring responsible and common sense reforms to public education,” according to East Baton Rouge Parish Republican chairman Woody Jenkins.

“She wants to reduce the number of tests administered each year, so that teachers have more time to teach, instead of teaching to a test. Kathy’s position as parents’ advocate with the Ascension Parish School System should give her an understanding of what our parents expect from the public education system,” he said.

Edmonston is a strong opponent of Common Core.

Jenkins said she be an independent voice on BESE, not beholden to any special interest group.

The election is this Saturday, Oct. 24, 2014.
