GOP Backs Vitter, Angelle

The Republican Party of East Baton Rouge Parish has made its endorsements in the race for Governor, and the local party has endorsed Sen. David Vitter and Public Service Commissioner Scott Angelle.

The endorsement for Governor took on special significance because the Louisiana Republican Party is not making an endorsement for Governor.  But the Republican Party of East Baton Rouge Parish is the largest local Republican party in the state, and its endorsement gives a candidate the right to use the Republican logo in newspaper and television ads, campaign cards, and mailings.  Candidates can say they are endorsed by the Republican, and this can be invaluable in a state that is growingly Republican.

Candidates for Governor had to fill out a questionnaire explaining their views on more than 70 key issues facing the state.

Parish GOP chairman Woody Jenkins said both Vitter and Angelle took strong conservative positions on almost all the issues.

“We’re fortunate to have two solid conservatives in the race,” he said.
